As a result of recent changes to the state run criminal law legal aid scheme many working people find that their
earnings take them outside of the legal aid scheme in the Magistrates Court.
Furthermore, working people whose cases go to the Crown Court for trial and who are currently granted legal aid are now often required to pay contributions towards their defence. These contributions are based upon 90% of their disposable income for 5 months and in some case 6 months. In many cases it can be more cost effective for the accused person to pay privately for their defence in circumstances where the lawyers' fees would be less than the total legal aid contributions figure. ANDREWS ANGEL SOLICITORS have devised and developed an alternative criminal law funding scheme for just this type of case and would be happy to accept instructions from clients to act in such circumstances.
