Overseas Law and Conflict of Laws

It is not just in this country that an individual can face investigation and prosecution for offences arising in the course of employment. For example, following an incident where there has been a fatality, a UK national abroad could face manslaughter charges. Even if there was no prosecution abroad, the incident could still in certain circumstances be the subject of a prosecution in this jurisdiction.

It would be essential for any individual to receive expert advice and representation in both the foreign jurisdiction and the UK.

Andrews Angel can instruct an expert criminal lawyer in the foreign jurisdiction and brief that lawyer on the case and on the implications for the client in the UK in relation to that particular offence with a view to ensuring that the individual concerned is not later prosecuted in the UK as a consequence of matters raised in a foreign court.

Furthermore, Andrews Angel would provide representation in any UK inquest, inquiry, criminal proceedings or extradition proceedings.

Patrick Andrews who heads this department has himself appeared in the Administrative Court in Belgrade, The former Yugoslav Supreme Court and the High Court in Rouen, Normandy. Patrick has also been retained to advise members of the International Police Force in Kosovo.
